Wedding photography as documentary

Weddings are my favorite photographic adventure.

The energy, the emotion, the dozens of different faces and tears and moments of connection that inevitably occur on that day make me swell with delight that it is my career to witness and record them. And of course, the unstoppable glow of people in love never ceases to amaze me.

It is my preference to shoot the majority of the wedding day. I do this because my work feels more complete and compelling if it encapsulates the whole of the day - the entire story.

I shoot primarily with a professional digital camera, and gravitate towards a style that is definitively more simplistic and 'documentary' in feel than traditional wedding photography tends to be.

However I tend to stray from the rigid documentary style in that I adore and utilize color as well as black and white.

I really do not like pre-made wedding packages. I have found it immensely more helpful in my business to create and craft a wedding package perfectly tailored to each client...

I want my services to fit you and your wedding like a glove, not for you to have to cram yourselves into "package option 1, or 2, or 3...".

You know what is important to you. I want to hear what you envision and hope for and use those things to craft your package.

With that said, my packages usually run at around 3500 dollars on average. Package prices always include an album.

There is flexibility and creativity within every price.

Photo albums

I am very serious about the way albums are created. It begins with beautiful fine leather albums from Aspinal of London, and includes the three of us sitting down and hand-picking the photographs that fill it.

The album includes notes from you and your fiance to one another (kept secret from each other until the album is completed), personalized quotes, icons, calligraphy, etc. It is my desire to fill the album with pieces of YOU.

Your album is to symbolize and portray who you are as a couple.

Both the photography itself and the album that is created are things I consider sacred and artistic.

I have a very hands-on philosophy in my work - your album will not be sent off or created online.

Child portraiture as documentary

Child documentaries start at $400.

Photography shoot takes place on location (park, home, outing, etc.) and lasts between 1-2 hours.

All photographs taken can be purchased for a lump sum, or separate photographs can be ordered at individual printing prices.

Children are trained early on to sit with good posture, in nice clothes and to keep a very specific smile on their face when a camera is raised.

The intention behind my method is to capture a child just 'being' (playing, eating, fighting, relating...) for a given length of time and to create from those pictures a photographic documentary. This method inevitably creates a panoply of photographs (usually 50-100 final photos) that is much more complete and winsome than standard child portraiture.

Close-up portrait shots of children always arise from my photo shoots, but the 'flavor' of them is certainly less stilted and less 'perfect.' (But of course I believe them to be exceedingly more perfect!)
